What is Select Grade Rift and Quartered White Oak?
When it comes to White Oak flooring, there are four official grades, Clear, Select, No.1 Common and No.2 Common. Clear grade provides the most consist color. Select grade offers a more natural appearance. With this type of flooring, you will see more of the natural character of the wood, including small knots. This tends to add a more rustic feel.
Rift and quartered refers to the way logs are cut to create planks. In this case, planks are milled in a way that creates a linear grain pattern. When you combine select grade and rift and quartered, you have a product that includes consistent grain patterns with the occasional knot. This makes it a great choice for modern homes that still want to maintain some of the character of natural wood.
The White Oak flooring for this home was finished on site. It was treated with a custom stain designed to meet the specifications of the client. We worked to create the perfect stain that would highlight the wood while also providing the right contrast. The resulting hues complete the modern look of the home.
